Making an Impact with Great Presentations and Smart Networking

 3 hours SRA CPD

Speaker:  Kim Tasso

Whilst cash for marketing might be short, many lawyers have time on their hands to make presentations to client, referrer and potential client groups and to network to build their profile and make new contacts.

The prospect of public speaking and presentations often strikes fear into the hearts of even the most experienced lawyers so this session provides a framework to enable you to prepare and present great presentations.

But even with a great presentation, you still need to know how to conduct yourself in order to maximise the opportunities from the networking situations at such events, so pragmatic guidance is included to boost your networking confidence and effectiveness.

During this 3 hour session the following points will be considered:-

  • The business and marketing plan context
  •  Understanding different types of events and audiences
  • The need for empathy

The 5 Cs of GREAT PRESENTATIONS

  • Consideration - aims, audience and type of event
  • Content - selecting, structuring and signposting material, start with an impact, using audio-visual materials and handouts
  • Confidence - before, during and after the presentation, first impression management, dealing with nerves, using space and the kit, adapting to audience feedback and promoting interaction and questions
  • Conversion - seizing opportunities with rapid follow up

The 4 Ps of SMART NETWORKING

  • Plan - Your aims and approach to choose the right events
  • Prepare yourself - Manage expectations, research, being a great Ambassador and adopt the right attitude
  • Perform well - make an impact and first impressions, introductions and elevator speeches, joining and leaving groups, starting and ending conversations, asking questions and listening well
  • Produce results - organise yourself, follow up and use of on-line/social networking tools
